The growth of a company is incredibly dependent upon the smooth operation of its core business. It can be very easy to lose focus or get distracted and start spending resources on things that are not supporting the primary growth engine(s). This often leads to an Engine Misfire Mode, where a company’s primary Growth Engine asymptotes and is no longer driving the majority of its growth.
If the Engine Misfire Mode isn’t addressed, a company can find itself quickly in a precarious position that can be hard to overcome. Fortunately, there are some key principles that can be followed to keep the Growth Engine on track and accelerating as expected.
Fuel Your Growth Engine: The Fuel Efficiency of an All-in-One Solution Platform
Choosing to utilize all-in-one solutions rather than best-of-breed tools can be a great way for businesses to ensure their various functions work well together and are integrated.
All-in-one systems tend to be able to provide greater consistency due to their cohesive architecture in how they’re designed and built. Often, they can be implemented and integrated within an enterprise more rapidly than best-of-breed systems. This means less of a headache for IT departments and less time to get staff up to speed on new platforms, functions and processes.
All-in-one solutions also have the benefit of providing a more cohesive user interface across functions and processes. This allows teams to use one set of tools with a common language and familiarity that reduces the learning curve for staff, which in turn reduces costs associated with training, allowing companies to save money in both direct and indirect cost.
Another advantage to all-in-one solutions is the ability for a business to avoid paying multiple license or service fees to various providers of individual solutions. This can be a significant expense that can quickly add up, especially for smaller organizations with limited budgets or a lack of infrastructure to support multiple point solutions. All-in-one solutions, on the other hand, can often be purchased for a single price and typically offer all-inclusive service packages that cover all functionality.
While there are some good arguments to be made for pursuing an Engine Two while the original core engine is ramping up, this strategy can come with its own risks. It’s very easy for teams to begin focusing on an Engine Two too early, which can distract them from achieving the full potential of the original core engine.
Moreover, this can also lead to a loss of momentum in the original engine that could derail growth.
A key principle is to make sure that the goals of the Engine Two are aligned with a growth-focused roadmap and that a full-time conductor is in place to manage the performance of both engines in harmony. It’s important to spend time experimenting with and kickstarting Engine Two, as well as Lubricating through Turbo boosts and mid-stage accelerants, but only once the primary Growth Engine is fully operational and has a full conductor at the wheel.

Hi there and welcome to my site. My name is Jose Santiago I was born and raised in the Bronx, NYC and just like every other urban city in America, growing up there it was no easy task. I've been a chef for 27 years and the thought of ever becoming an entrepreneur never entered my mind not by a long shot. I became a chef after my hopes and dreams of becoming a professional baseball player was shattered when I broke my humerus bone while pitching during a tryout at Fordham University. As the former boxing champion said Mike Tyson, "Everyone has a plan until they get hit in face".
